Currently the tallest building in Sandy, the 11-story Mountain America Center houses 2,000 employees and features offices, a medical clinic, gym and restaurant. The adjacent 1,800-stall parking structure is shared by Mountain America and Hale Centre Theater.

The design team considered several options for the office tower. The final solution was concrete over metal floor deck supported by a gravity steel frame. Wind and seismic forces are resisted by concrete shear walls strategically located around stair and elevator cores. This solution provided the best economy while maximizing flexibility in the occupied spaces.

Some of the structural challenges included looking at several options for the foundation system.  A driven pile system was eventually chosen.  Another design challenge was coordinating the parking structure to accommodate access from the Hale Center Theater that was already underway in construction.  The parking structure is constructed with concrete post-tensioned slabs and beams. A series of galvanized angles is attached to the parking exterior to support the exterior metal panel cladding and the large video board on the southwest corner of the parking structure.

Some unique aspects of the design  of the office tower included cantilevered floor plates at levels two and three to minimize structure and create the outdoor patio on the west side of level  three.  An elevated walkway was designed between levels one and two to provide a protected means of egress without occupying valuable floor space on the first floor.

AromaTools new facility boast a production area, office, meeting area and a large showroom culminating to a beautiful structure that met the client's needs and product goals. The 24,000 SF two-story facility had a tight deadline with lead time on steel. The panels were poured and erected just in time for the steel. The tilt-up panels had unique shapes with sloped edges of panels at the corners, which were only possible due to the tilt-up method. The panel thicknesses vary with some panels braces at the floors and some going full height unbraced.
